Magical Space Flight - How do thing fly in space?

Why do things fly in outer space? Have you ever questioned it? Some magic is happening around there because if something wants to fly inside the limit of atmosphere there is a need of a source for lift, a source of propulsion, and many more parameters to be taken care of but once something got out there in space, it gets to fly. Come on let’s get into this and unveil the mystery.

Orbits:-

Every thing is revolving and rotating out there but all this is happening in an order i.e. everything has a orbit in which it revolves around the sun. Do you know our solar system resembles more like an atom just a bigger sized atom. Nucleus is our sun and electrons are the planets.

Lunar Droplets - What happened to our Moon's Water?

Ever since humans acknowledged the universe, we have been very much fascinated by the moon, and have made numerous attempts to find the possibility of life on it. When man first landed on the lunar surface 40 years ago, his first action was to find the possibility of presence of water on the moon.

Chandrayaan 2's Pragyan Rover may still be Alive!

Remember ISRO's Chandrayaan 2 mission to moon? Well the mission was only a partial success as ISRO lost communication with the Vikram Lander, which was carrying Pragyan Rover on-board. The lander was later reported to be met with a hard landing #crashed.
But now (August 1, 2020) Shanmuga Subramanian, the techie who got credited by NASA for finding debris of Chandrayaan 2's Vikram lander, claims that Pragyan rover may still be alive! and he has also shared his findings with ISRO and NASA.

As per Shan's findings...

SpaceX nose cone recovery - Another milestone in reusable rocket technology

SpaceX has nailed it again! Their technical expertise in the pioneering field of 'Rocket Science' has undoubtedly proven a new level of remarkable achievement! SpaceX has performed flawlessly an all reusable rocket component recovery on July 20, 2020. This historic milestone was realistically achieved when their crew boats accurately captured both the payload fairings of its reusable rocket nose cone. Watch the magnificent video footage shared by SpaceX

Free Fall

Astronauts float inside space station or do they really float? Actually astronauts do not float but fall around Earth all the time. The way they fall is known as free fall. Free fall is a state in which gravity becomes the only acceleration force acting on the body. In a free fall no other force such as air resistance, pushing, pulling is considered to be acting on the body.

Video Credits: Bryan Rolfe

Do you know? An astronaut on-board ISS still feels 90 percent of Earth’s gravity. A person on moon can still feel 17 percent of Earth’s gravitational force. Falling towards Earth with a parachute deployed cannot be called as free fall, as the aerodynamic drag force equals the gravity.  Can you imagine what else is in free fall?

Airlock – The Door to Space

Have you ever seen astronauts going for a spacewalk all suited up in their space suits?. You might have noticed them opening a door and locking it, then waiting for some time and then opening another door to get out to space. If not on live shows from the International Space Station (ISS) you might have noticed this scene in many space fiction movies. Why do they do so?

Astronauts do this to avoid accidents such as blow outs and to keep the space station safe. The pressure inside...

Lapse Rate and Earth's Atmosphere

Atmosphere varies with increase in altitude. Temperature, pressure and density are the important parameters that vary with altitude. A static atmospheric model known as “International Standard Atmosphere” is referred for determining the parameters at a particular altitude.

Therefore temperature variation is of special interest as it varies at a constant rate at lower altitudes. Lapse Rate is a rate at which temperature varies with altitude (temperature gradient). Lapse rate is denoted as ‘a’.Earth’s atmosphere is divided into five layers namely troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and...

THE HIDDEN FACE – Exploring the far side of moon

The moon has been our neighbour for ages, explorations are being conducted for decades. Every question invariably leads to a remarkable discovery, vice versa every discovery leads to a question. Planetary observers doubted the appearance of the moon since they were able to see only the near side of the moon every time, have you ever noticed it? If not peep through your window to instantly start observing!

KARMAN LINE – Where Space Begins

Ever wondered about the boundary between earth and space, we are well aware about the boundaries between nations/countries, but what is the case with space and earth? There is an imaginary boundary named as “Karman Line” named after Theodore von Kármán.
"Anyone who crosses karman line is termed as an astronaut."
According to Kármán’s calculations, this line lies at an altitude of 83.6 km (51.9 miles). The figure (83.6 km) isn’t an arbitrary number, there is a substantial reason behind it.
