Drone Swarms – Future of aerial warfare

You would have seen a flock of birds flying in the sky. Today’s technology has replicated through drones. There are drone light shows which are setting world records around the globe! One of the most beautiful purpose drones are put to.

In 2018, the technology giant “Intel” created a world record by flying 2000 drones at once. It lighted the night sky of California with lights carried by drones. But are drone swarms only meant for entertainment purpose?

No, though drones are used for entertainment purpose it’s actually planned to be used for military purpose. Having a fleet is always beneficial, may it be soldiers or a naval feet. So what about a drone fleet, which is ready for action 24/7? All you need to do is to pull the trigger.

The drone fleet commonly known as drone swarm is used for carrying lethal weapons (aerial warfare) and perform attack on the target. What is the benefit of using a drone swarm instead of a individual large drone?

The actual benefit is that it is hard to take down a complete swarm of drones .i.e to destroy the fleet. If it is a single drone it can be easily targeted and destroyed which results in mission failure, but in case of a drone swarm it isn’t so easy to destroy all of them at once. Hence using a drone swarm has higher probability of mission completion.

India is designing its own drone swarm known as ALFA-S or Air-Launched Flexible Asset (Swarm) which is meant to be the next generation of warfare.
