Radial engine was first invented in the year 1901. Earlier airplane engines used to be powered by these radial engines, nowadays a very few airplanes are associated with these engines. But have you ever imagined the number of components in it? Dan Cabral a Product Design Engineer has given a modern touch to this retro beauty. Watch this mesmerising "Radial Engine Assembly Animation".

"Ideas are engines, they won't drive reality unless you fuel them."
Circular placement of object does have space saving capability, this was the core idea of "Radial Engine" concept. Here the piston cylinders are placed along the radii making it compact and powerful at the same time. Though it suffered from increased frontal area it was widely used propulsion system in world war II aircraft. High oil consumption and difficulty in starting after endured halt did make it doomed. Yet this modern touch of CAD has revived it and visually lets us realise the number of parts and level of detailed design involved in a radial engine.
